"Ignorantia legis neminem excusat" i.e. ignorance of law excuses no one. This Latin legal maxim broadly signifies the importance of law.
School of Legal Studies (SOLS), approved by Bar Council of India, was established at K.R. Mangalam University in 2013 with the aim of imparting quality legal education to law aspirants and presenting socially-relevant legal professionals equipped with the knowledge of statutory provisions. Lectures on techniques of client interviewing and counselling; moot court training from first year itself assists them in learning the basics of this profession. Under graduate programmes have been re-deigned and transformed into ‘courses with specializations’ to edify the prospective lawyers to learn and master a specific area of legal studies. These specializations courses have been introduced to meet the existing and future demands in the legal field. The flexibility to choose from a wide range of departmental electives as well as trans-disciplinary courses encourages them to design their course as per their area of interest.
The prima facie objective of SOLS is to nurture and guide the budding lawyers and present them to the society at large where they can be approached by the haves and have nots in need of legal assistance.
These ‘soon to become lawyers’ of SOLS regularly participates in Moot Court Competitions at Intra-University and Inter University Levels to chisel their advocacy skills. With an actual Summer Internship Programmes, which is mandatory for all the SOLS students, enhance their professional skills.
Our budding lawyers organise Legal Awareness Programmes and Legal Aid Camps in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority, Gurugram, to bridge the gap between those who need help and the ones who can actually provide it. This makes them know and learn about the legal issues that the common people are facing and how to assist them in getting the reliefs. From performing nukkad nataks on various legal issues in different places to providing professional guidance to the underprivileged section of the society the SOLS students are indeed working to make legal profession a noble profession.
Evaluation pattern for all the courses in SOLS consists of various components like participation of a students in class activities, power point presentation of the research work done by them and written examinations. This is designed to give weightage to all the areas of learning. It inculcates the habit of doing research in the young researchers and lawyers and also builds confidence in them to speak before the audience.
SOLS encourage and help the prospective advocates to work in accomplishing their goals. The concept of Mentoring gives the students to interact and freely discuss any collegiate issue with their mentors. During their course work, the Mentor keeps a check on their academic performance.
The special teaching pedagogy involving hands on learning experience endeavours in fulfilling our social responsibility towards the Nation. Organizing International Conferences, Seminars, debate competitions, extempore etc are all done by our proficient students under the supervision of competent faculty. In person interaction of students with Honorable Judges from Supreme Court, High Court and District Courts during guest lectures provides them a platform to discuss their doubts and learn from their personal experiences.
Your future is in your hands but we will guide and help you in shaping it by enhancing your academic abilities.
