International Conference On Ethics and Integrity in Management and Legal Practices

K. R. Mangalam University, Gurugram organised International Conference on “Ethics and Integrity in Management and Legal Practices” on February 8th& 9th , 2019 at the University campus, Sohna Road, Gurugram.

The objective of the conference was to inculcate a culture of integrity and ethics among the budding entrepreneurs and the young students who are likely to join the corporate bandwagon soon and to create a platform for students, academicians, law practitioners and corporate executives to work together in spreading awareness about the role of “integrity and ethics” in management functions and legal practices.

The two-day programme witnessed of presentations, panel discussions and interactive sessions which were keenly attended by the receptive audience of academicians, researchers, corporate delegates and students.

The event brought together eminent academicians, judicial officers and international speakers who put forth their views on the role of ethics and integrity in promoting management & legal practices. The program provided a valuable networking opportunity and fulfilled the needs of academia and practitioners to share and exchange knowledge and gain experience on how to increase the awareness of what constitutes ethical behaviour and how to draw the line between ethical and unethical practices with reference to the prescribed legal norms. The importance of integrity in all spheres of life –organisational as well as individual was emphasised upon by the participants.

The Convenor of the Conference and Dean School of Management & Commerce –Prof. Vijay A. Dubey, highlighted the urgent need for discussion on ethics and integrity in management and legal practices.

Patron & Vice Chancellor of the University -Professor (Dr.) Aditya Malik shared his views on the importance of ethics and integrity which are the basic purpose of human existence.

Key Note address by Dr. Sunita Sen Gupta –Head & Dean- Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi, explained the relevance of ancient text and scriptures in contemporary ethical practices.

Prof. Alex Snee- Head of operations, University of York, UK, discussed the relevance of integrity and ethics in marketing function of an enterprise.

Dr. Simon Evans, Professor- Faculty of Business and Law, Anglia Ruskin University, England, focussed on making room for ethics in the new world order.

The Panel discussion on Ethics and Law in Management -an anathema? was moderated by Brig (Dr.) Ajay Mehta who talked about the meaning of ethos, ethics & how laws are made on the basis of ethics. He further emphasised that policies and ethics are inter-dependent.

Mr. Sunil Chopra- Chief Commissioner (Retd.) Income Tax, Govt. of India- argued about the old school of thoughts which focused on maximisation of profits, which was the objective of business earlier, he further focussed on maximisation of benefits for society at large.

Justice (Retired) Mr. RK Agrawal- President; National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission addressed the audience on management ethics. He shared his views that good people lead to good management and success of organisation is based on trust of the customers and the stakeholders.

Prof. Lallan Prasad- Former Head & Dean, Department of Business Economics, University of Delhi, expressed his views on the topic- "Ethical Business is a Good Business".

Prof. Sudhashu Rai from Denmark Business School who connected via Skype enthralled the audience by sharing the concept of embeddedness and its applicability in higher education.

Mr. Praveen Nayak, Garb geologist, Garbage Clinic, shared his concern about the phenomenal amount of waste being created today and the lack of proper disposal management systems. He explained the urgent need for reviewed from the organisations in adapting ethical mechanism to tackle the problem.

The valedictory address was delivered byProf. (Dr.) Manoj Sinha – Director Indian Law Institute, New Delhi which was followed by the vote of thanks by the convenor of the conference and Dean, School of Legal Studies, Prof. Krishan Mahajan.
