Career counselling is an essential factor for identifying the real potential and guiding students towards right career path. To keep aspirations of students high, School of Legal Studies, K. R. Mangalam University has organised a five day ‘Student Development Program’ from 10th-14th July 2020.

On the first day Mr. Shri Hari Patil, Lt. Commander, Deputy Judge Advocate, Integrated Military Headquarter, JAG wing of Navy delivered presentation on the career opportunities for law students in Indian Army, Navy & Air force. He encouraged students by briefing them about the service benefits like, canteen and medical facilities, pay & perks, pension of army officers. He shared his insight on the work culture and also highlighted the role of legal professionals in JAG (Judge Advocate General) commonly called as ‘JAG'.

The second day Dr. Vinay Kapoor, Vice Chancellor, Dr. Ambedkar National Law University, Sonepat was the resource person. She spoke about the scope of higher studies in the field of law and has emphasised that if a student wants to join the academic field in law they must focus on research and work hard to clear the competitive exams like HPSC, PCS and National Commission on Women.

Two Hon’ble Judges chaired the third day of the session and shared their insight on the career in judicial services. Sh. Prashant Sharma, Additional District and Session Judge, Delhi presently posted at Tis Hajari Court and Sh. Vikrant, Civil Judge, Haryana. Both the speakers motivated the students to prepare for the judicial services exam. They highlighted that it is the most important position in the Judicial System of India. Judicial services are the elite but very responsible career. It has power and respect in society. She also added that judges are responsible for administrating, interpreting and applying laws and article of the Constitution and it requires lot of hard work, dedication and determination towards the Judicial System.

On the fourth day of the SDP there were two speakers Mr. Siddharth Kumar, Senior Partner, Dua Associates and Ms. Rakhi Buddhiraja, Advocate, Supreme Court of India. The speakers enlightened the students on how to tackle the professional obstacles in their career with calm attitude.

On the fifth and the last day, Ms. Anju Kapoor, who is an advocate and founder of AKMD Legal spoke about her journey, she discussed various dimensions of litigation. She also added importance of drafting skills, which is the foremost requirement of any student who wishes to go for litigation. With this she discussed about the concept of “confidence” which can be attained by participating in moot court competitions, legal aid camps and by presenting assignments. Ms. Anju Kapoor also discussed about advocacy skills.

The main purpose of this SDP was to provide knowledge about the law discipline and the sessions were delivered by the JAG officer, Academician, Judges, Corporate lawyers and Advocate. These sessions were attended by almost 110 aspiring students along with faculties
