K.R. Mangalam University

Efforts are continuing to create advanced facilities in the Engineering Kitchen at KRMU. One of the major activities is concerned with setting up of a new facility for growth of single crystals of technologically important materials from the melt. A crystal growth system is being designed. A furnace for creating a zone of high temperature up to 900 °C has been designed and its fabrication work has started. Its core is a cylindrical resistance heater. It has been designed to use some local materials like mud as an insulator material. Kanthal wire has been wound on a wooden frame, fabricated in the university. It has been covered with a thick coating of locally available special mud used by pot makers. It is being now heat treated before final steps to complete the furnace fabrication.
