3DPrinting & Additive Manufacturing: Scenario in Medical and Automobile Industry.

Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering & Technology of K.R. Mangalam University organized a guest lecture on “Additive Manufacturing and 3D Printing” on March 13, 2019. The invited speaker was Prof. (Dr.) Abid Haleem from Department of Mechanical Engineering, Jamia Milia Islamia University, New Delhi.

Prof. Haleem explained the industrial revolution commonly referred to Additive Manufacturing is powered by advancements that include Smart Manufacturing, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things. He also emphasized the role of automation in reducing the complexity in the manufacturing of prosthetic limbs, human body organs and aircraft components etc. He explained the advancement in Automobile Industry and role of 3D printing and 3D scanning in the same.

He also enlightened the participants with his deep in-depth knowledge of Additive Manufacturing. Furthermore, he explained the growth of mechanical engineering industry in the past decade. He highlighted on the bonding of between the industry-academia relations for making. He explained the importance of additive manufacture from medical to rocket science. He also emphasized on the materials and designing part of the 3D printer.

Faculty members and students of ‘School of Engineering and Technology’ and ‘School of Medical and Allied Sciences’ of K.R. Mangalam University attended this workshop. In last, there was a healthy interaction session in which participants cleared their doubts and thanked to the invited speaker.

Dr. Ajay Rathee, Assistant Professor, ME Department coordinated this guest lecture under the guidance of Prof. Aditya Malik (Honorable Vice Chancellor), Prof. Anita Sharma (Pro-Vice Chancellor), Prof. Ashum Gupta (Dean Research and Academic Affairs) and Prof. Ranjit Varma (Dean SOET).
