Field Visit to Gait and Motion Lab
School of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Sciences organised a Field Visit to Gait and Motion Lab, Sec 27, Gurugram- North India’s first private motion analysis set up. This lab has been set up by Dr. Manoj Padman, Orthopaedic Paediatrician, with Dr. Vandana Phadke (P.T.) as the chief motion analysis expert. Gait training and motion analysis are essential for physiotherapists in diagnosing and treating patients with movement impairments. It helps physiotherapists observe and understand abnormal walking patterns, which can be caused by various conditions such as neurological disorders, musculoskeletal injuries, or post-surgical rehabilitation. Through 3-D gait analysis, physiotherapists can pinpoint specific areas of weakness that need to be rehabilitated. During the visit, Dr. Vandana explained to the students that with the help of various motion sensors that are placed on specific anatomic landmarks they are able to diagnose movement impairments.
The use of 3D motion capture technology to assess joint angles, body mechanics, and muscle activity is becoming more prevalent. Learning how to interpret this data will allow physiotherapists to design more effective and personalized treatment plans.
