Syed Afzal Murtaza Rizvi

Prof. S. A. M. Rizvi is a distinguished professor at Jamia Millia Islamia, with over 35 years of teaching and research experience in India and abroad. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Dr. R. M. L. Avadh University in 1996. With nearly two decades of service at Jamia Millia Islamia, he served as Head of the Department from 2016 to 2019. Prof. Rizvi has designed numerous programs and courses as Chairman and Member of BOS, Academic Council, and other academic bodies at various universities and higher educational institutions.
He has authored six textbooks and published over 187 papers in reputed journals, including SCI, SCOPUS, and IEEE Transactions. He has mentored 23 Ph.D. awardees, with eight currently registered scholars. Prof. Rizvi is a Senior Member of the Computer Society of India (CSI) and a member of IEEE, ISCA, and IEA.
His extensive career includes senior academic positions at universities in India, such as Goa University and universities in Chennai, Haryana, and Agra, as well as international teaching experience in the USA, Australia, and the UAE. He has also worked with international accreditation bodies and played a key role in launching new programs like the B.S. (MIS) at Abu Dhabi University. Additionally, he served as Director of Training and University-Industrial Linkage programs and Chief Manager (EDP/IT) at Goa Shipyard under the Ministry of Defense, Government of India. Prof. Rizvi’s contributions extend to training industrial computer professionals and developing executive MBA programs. He has also been a part of various selection committees at central and state universities.
