Dean, School of Liberal Arts
SUMMARY:
The Dean of the School of Liberal Arts is a visionary leader responsible for fostering academic excellence, innovative research, and creative scholarship. The Dean provides strategic direction, academic oversight, and operational management for the school, ensuring alignment with the institution’s mission, goals, and values. This position involves collaboration with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders to promote the growth and reputation of the school.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement a vision and strategic plan for the School of Liberal Arts.
- Promote interdisciplinary collaboration and innovative academic programs.
- Ensure the school’s alignment with institutional goals and priorities.
Academic And Administrative Leadership:
- Oversee academic programs, ensuring quality, relevance, and compliance with accreditation standards.
- Manage faculty recruitment, retention, development, and evaluation processes.
- Ensure the effective allocation of resources, including budgets, facilities, and staff.
Student Success:
- Foster a supportive environment for student learning, development, and success.
- Collaborate with other departments to enhance student engagement and retention.
- Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of the school’s operations.
Research and Scholarship:
- Encourage and support faculty research, scholarship, and creative endeavours.
- Seek funding opportunities and partnerships to advance research initiatives.
Community Engagement and Fundraising:
- Build partnerships with external stakeholders, including alumni, industry leaders, and donors.
- Represent the school in public forums to enhance its visibility and reputation.
- Lead fundraising efforts to secure resources for strategic priorities.
Governance and Compliance:
- Participate in institutional governance and policy development.
- Ensure compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations.
Qualifications:
- Education
- A terminal degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in a relevant field within the liberal arts.
Experience:
- Significant academic leadership experience (e.g., as a department chair, associate dean, or equivalent).
- 10+ year of academic experience.
- A distinguished record of teaching, scholarship, and service.
- Experience with strategic planning, budgeting, and personnel management.
