Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated individual to join our Psychology Department as a Laboratory Assistant. This role is integral to supporting the research activities within the department, providing essential assistance in conducting experiments, maintaining equipment, and ensuring a smooth workflow within the laboratory environment.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Experimental Support:
    • Assist in setting up and conducting experiments under the supervision of senior researchers.
    • Prepare materials and equipment necessary for experiments.
    • Monitor experiments and record data accurately and efficiently.
    • Follow established protocols and procedures to maintain consistency and reliability in experimental procedures.
  2. Laboratory Maintenance:
    • Ensure cleanliness and organization of the laboratory space.
    • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment; notify appropriate personnel of low stock.
    • Perform routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment as needed.
    • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for all staff and students.
  3. Data Management and Analysis:
    • Assist in data entry, coding, and analysis using appropriate software tools.
    • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of research data and participant information.
    • Generate basic summaries and reports of experimental results as directed.
  4. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Collaborate effectively with researchers, faculty members, and other laboratory staff.
    • Communicate any issues, concerns, or deviations from protocols promptly to supervisors.
    • Participate in team meetings and discussions related to ongoing research projects.
Qualifications:
    • Education: Minimum of a high school diploma; coursework or degree in psychology or a related field preferred.
    • Experience: Previous experience in a laboratory setting or conducting research is advantageous but not required. Training will be provided.

Skills:

    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize workload effectively.
    • Attention to detail and accuracy in data collection and experimental procedures.
    • Proficiency in basic computer skills and familiarity with data analysis software (e.g., SPSS, Excel) is desirable.
    • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a collaborative environment.
