Educational Trip to Suraj Kund, Faridabad

An Educational Trip to SurajKund Exhibition was organized for the students by the School of Engineering & Technology, K. R. Mangalam University, Gurgaon. On 1st April 2022, around 125 students along with faculty members visited the Suraj Kund Exhibition. The faculty coordinator was Dr Shweta A. Bansal and Ms. Puja Acharya.
 


A unique International craft festival, the Surajkund Mela 2022 is a platform for artists across the globe to showcase their culture and talent. This exhibition is hosted annually by the Haryana Tourism Department in Surajkund, the mela has many offbeat attractions for tourists of every age. 
Over 20 countries from South Asia, Africa, and Europe actively participate in making this fair a huge success. Surajkund, meaning 'Lake of the Sun', is an ancient reservoir that was built by King Suraj Pal of the Tomar dynasty in the 10th century. Faridabad in Haryana, saw no tourism until it began hosting the 'Surajkund International Craft Mela'.
 


The major motive of the visit was to introduce the students to the current market scenario and to explore several domains, where technology could be used in an effective way. The students made the analysis about the several factors, such as the kind of waste material which is being collected in the exhibitions and the fairs, and how to turn it into useful products or recycle it using the technology.
 
Students also explored the handcrafted item and the time and labor that is being consumed in order to manufacture them. The students came up with ways to implement certain technologies that could be used to develop those handicrafts at mass level.
