KRMU Science Society Uplifting Scientific Temper in Students Through Science Olympiad 2021

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Science Society, K. R. Mangalam University (KRMU) successfully organized “Science Olympiad - 2021”, an Intra-University Quiz Competition on November 22, 2021. The theme of this event was "General Science and Awareness".

The event was initiated by Dr. Dilraj Preet Kaur, Coordinator of Science Club in association with other faculty members, She was followed by Dr. Neeraj Kumari and Ms. Pooja Vats of School of Basic and Applied Sciences (SBAS) who explained the rules and guidelines to the students to make sure that the event is conducted with a good spirit and can be fruitful in the end.

The event started at 11 AM onwards and comprised of three rounds. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Science Society is known for innovating and recreating how things are done and that is what science is right? Experimenting and trying to find better results! So unlike regular Science Olympiads which are boooring and only tests your academic skills rather that yoru perception and application skills, the society designed this competition to be conducted in three rounds.

The first round was a quiz round wherein around 20 questions were shared with students which they had to answer and submit in under 20 minutes. This was the elimination round and it tested how students could work under pressure. Out of a total number of participant, 52% of them were selected for the next round! Dr. Neeraj Kumari announced the name of the students and they started preparing for the next round, flexing their arms in their brains...

The second round was a group discussion round where the hot topic “Fire the crackers on Diwali: Yes/No” was given to students for the discussion. As usual, KRMU students spoke very well in favor as well as against the topic which clearly showed how the KRMU Course curriculum has benefitted the overall growth of the student that makes them think out of the box. The students spoke so well on and against the topic that it was difficult for the judges and they took 15 minutes to decide who was the best among the rest because rules are rules, only 5 candidates could reach the final!

The third and final round was a rapid-fire round where questions were asked and the finalists had to answer the questions in no more than 10 seconds or they lose. The questions were pretty mind-wobbling and made them think to their core. After a pretty decisive round, the last two students who made it up to the top two were declared ultimate winners(must have felt like Vikings, right?).

With their fierce views and outstanding performance, yet again, women stole the show. Ms. Himani from M. Sc. Physics secured the first position while Ms. Sejal from B. Sc. (Mathematics) got the second position. KRMU ardently believes in women empowerment which is made into reality by students like Himani and Sejal. Hats off to them!

The event concluded with the coordinators of the science society congratulating the winners and thanking all students for participating and attending the event.

The main focus of the event was to inculcate the habit of quick thinking and increase the scientific temper among KRMU students. During the event, students enthusiastically participated in the event and made this event a big success towards the goal of the society.
