23rd December Venue - K.R. Mangalam University

NSS Unit, KRMU Successfully Concluded Donation Drive

Here they are, winters! And they make us all smile…

But look over there, someone is sad.

How can they miss a smile while we are sitting happily in our cozy bed?

Oh, the needy out there are shivering, They do not have anything to clad!!

This is what portrays a sad story of millions out there who spend their lives homeless, on the streets. Many survive while others fall prey to the swapping seasons in search of clothes, food, and the necessities for survival. National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of KR Mangalam University initiated a 2 weeks DONATION CAMP to bring some warmth in their lives. It was a week-long camp conducted from December 06 - 23, 2021 to celebrate the joy of giving on the KRMU campus. In this campaign, students were free to donate clothes, stationery items, and other items which are not in their use but somehow can be utilized by the ones in need. This initiative was introduced to encourage them to donate their unwanted things to needy ones. Unused and excess products of one's life, however, can bring warmth to the lives of thousands.

The cloth collection cartons were placed in the B-block of the KRMU Campus near the staff room and outside the girl’s as well as the boy’s hostel followed by the cafeteria. There were different cartons placed for the collection of clothes, footwear, and other items, to avoid any confusion. Not only the NSS volunteers but the whole campus participated in the donation drive in a fair amount showing their great enthusiasm for helping the homeless and the poor.

The clothes collected were then donated to an NGO - Earth Saviours Foundation at Bandhwari village in Faridabad by NSS volunteers along with the NSS Coordinator, Dr. Chandra Mohan on 24th December 2021. It is a shelter-home for the disabled and the old homeless people. The founder of the NGO Mr. Ravi Kalra along with his hardworking volunteers worked very hard in spreading happiness in the world of the people he rescued so far. The volunteers of the NGO took us on a tour of the shelter home. During the tour, we met a lot of people, exchanged talks. Everyone had a story to tell. Physically they did not match us but mentally they all are prepared for having a kind and gentle conversation with the strangers who come to visit them. Everybody mentioned a phrase in common at the beginning or at the end of their story, “This is a holy place and it feels home here”. Being present at the foundation we realized, while we fight for small things in our lives there are much bigger and beautiful things to be focused on.

We must be grateful for the little things to our NSS coordinators, members, and volunteers for their help because in the end that’s the only thing that matters.
