SMAS Holds Talk Show to Spread Awareness on World AIDS Day

United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS) observes World AIDS Day on December 1 with the motive of spreading awareness about this dreaded disease and educating people on how to prevent oneself from getting infected. The theme for this year was “Hands up for Prevention”. The day marks an opportunity for every community and every person in this world to unite in the fight against HIV, show support to people living with HIV, and remember those who have perished.



In order to spread the word among the upcoming generation and get them well aware of this disease, KR Mangalam University, School of Medical and Allied Sciences (SMAS) organized a talk show on World AIDS Day. Dr. Arun Garg, honourable Dean of SMAS led the talk show on 1st December 2021 at around 09:30 am. Being an excellent orator with extensive knowledge in the field of pharmacy, the rooms where he delivers his talks, are filled to the brim with the audience. Students from all the semesters of B.Pharm, M.Pharm, BPT, D.Pharma and Ph.D. were there to attend the talk show.



During the talk show, Dr. Garg discussed the exact meaning of AIDS and HIV, causes, symptoms, and phases, mode of infection, precautions, HIV positive individual prevention, HIV medications and key facts such as the HIV epidemic has an overall decreasing trend in country with estimated annual New HIV infections declining by 37% between 2010 and 2019. The main aim of the talk show was to spread awareness among the today’s youth as the future generation has the ability to sensitize others and prevent spread of HIV. the Talk Show was totally based on the UNAIDS theme and its awareness and was well coordinated by Ms. Neha Minocha, Assistant Professor, SMAS.



Overall, it was an interactive session. At the end of the talk show, the students enthusiastically asked various thought-provoking questions which were clarified very well by Dr. Garg. The session ended with a round of discussion and vote of thanks by Dr.Arun Garg (Dean SMAS).
