SMAS Successfully Hosts National Webinar in the Wake of 60th National Pharmacy Week

School of Medical and Allied Sciences (SMAS) successfully hosted a webinar from November 26th and 27th, 2021 on the occasion of 60th National Pharmacy Week 2021, on the theme "Pharmacists: An Integral Part of Healthcare." Every year during the third week of November, the Indian Pharmacy Graduates Association (IPGA) organises National Pharmacy Week.

This year, to describe the role of a pharmacist, the pharmacy career, and to raise public awareness. Prof. Dr. Vadlamudi Rao, President, Commonwealth Pharmacists Association hosted a webinar on the topic on November 26th, 2021 at 02:00 P.M. on the Zoom platform. Ms. Neha Minocha,  Assistant Professor, SMAS delivered the inaugural speech for the programme.
The Session moderator Prof. Dr. G.Jayabalan (Principal, Alwar Pharmacy College) welcomed all the participants with his inaugural speech. There were a total of 45 participants including faculties and students at the zoom platform. The Speaker of the session Prof. Dr. Vadlamudi Rao (President, Commonwealth Pharmacists Association) described the importance of all the benefits along with potential risk associated with medicines used in different diseases to patients. It reflects all the proper storage and safe disposal of unused medicines. The session was successfully concluded by Dr. Arun Garg (Dean SMAS) who presented a Vote of Thanks and final remarks.

As it was a two day long event, the second day was also covered by a webinar session on the same topic. This time the session was introduced by Dr. Mamta Shankar (Assistant Professor, SMAS). She introduced the university and the convenor of the event, Dr. Arun Garg. the honourable speaker of the event was Dr. Md. Salahuddin (Principal, Al-Ameen College of Pharmacy, Bangalore) on 27th November 2021 at 10:30 P.M.
The programme started with an opening remark delivered by Dr. Manish Pal (Associate Professor, SMAS). There were total 32 participants including faculties and students at zoom platform.
The session was moderated by Mr. Atul Kumar Nasa (Head of Office, Controlling and Licensing Authority, Drug Control Department, GOI) who humbly welcomed all the participants to this informative and insightful event. Md. Salahuddin blessed the audience with his motivational speech. The theme this year has been chosen to draw special attention to the trust in the health sector and the practice of pharmacy.
"Trust is also essential in health care: there is a significant relationship between trust in healthcare professionals and patient health outcomes." Patients with higher trust in their healthcare professionals reported greater satisfaction with treatment, more beneficial health behaviours and fewer symptoms, and an improved quality of life across a variety of clinical settings. At the end of the talk, the participants' questions were thoroughly answered. Dr.Arun Garg concluded the session with a round of applause and a vote of thanks (Dean SMAS).

In recent years, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, the pharmacy sector has grown significantly in terms of professional service delivery, and it is now recognized as a significant profession in the multidisciplinary provision of health care. The pharmacist is the backbone of the health-care system. Pharmacists' roles in various sectors of the pharmacy profession, such as industrial, academics, community health, clinical research, drug design, and discovery, have expanded significantly.
A common phrase about pharmacists is, "Physician gives medicine to patients, but pharmacist gives life to medicine."
