Webinar on the Importance of Biotechnology in Agriculture
With the objective of introducing students to the importance as well as career options in the field of Biotechnology, the School of Agricultural Sciences, K.R. Managalam University organized a webinar on 7th June 2022 with budding biotechnologist, Dr. Anurag Tripathi from the Janta Vedic College, Bagpat, C.C.S University Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.
Recently, Dr. Tripathi joined the CCS University after serving the scientific and academic community for about 8 years. Dr. Tripathi initially informed the students about the definition, history, and major milestones of plant biotechnology around the globe.
Lastly, he highlighted all the applications of plant biotechnology in agriculture including the Indian scenario of Bt Cotton and Bt Brinjal. Moreover, he also compared the production data of various countries in terms of Agriproducts generated using Biotechnology.
Following this, he enlightened students about the regulatory agencies, policies, and perception of government as well as the general public towards the Biotechnology products, especially in India. Students got an introduction to the multiple avenues of Plant Biotechnology in Agriculture.
They were also acquainted with the regulations on Biotechnology by the Central Government of India as well as GEAC. This was a highly informative session for the students of SOAS interested in diversifying their careers as Plant biotechnologists and further setting up their own companies in the future.
