The Ph.D. programme is framed according to standards set by UGC (UGC Minimum standards and procedure for award of M.Phil/ PhD Degree} Regulations, 2016 under the guidance of highly qualified and widely recognized faculty in their respective fields. This Ph.D. programme is for exceptionally gifted individuals who want to pursue an academic career and contribute to the society. KRMU offers Ph.D. Programme under the guidance of supervisor appointed by the university in following schools/disciplines/areas:

  • School of Engineering and Technology- Computer Science, Electronics and Communication, Civil, Mechanical Engineering
  • School of Management & Commerce: Management and Commerce
  • School of Basic and Applied Sciences:Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics
  • School of Medical and Allied Sciences: Pharmaceutical Sciences
  • School of Law: Law
  • School of Humanities- English
  • School of Education
  • School of Journalism and Mass Communication
  • Interdisciplinary areas-Energy and Water, Robotics, Nano-Science and Nano-Technology, Public Health etc.
  • The Ph.D. Programme is designed to cater to the following categories of students :

    Full Time students : –

    Candidates are required to devote full time on campus for Ph.D. Some candidates may be offered teaching/research/project assistantship. Those selected for this will be required to assist in teaching/laboratories and other developmental work under the guidance of mentor.

    Part Time Students : –

    Candidates working in organizations situated in close vicinity of university will be admitted under this category.

    Sponsored Students : –

    Employees of Organizations /industries having collaborations with university will be admitted under this category.

    Programme Structure :

    The Ph.D. programme is based on the research carried out by the student under the guidance of Supervisor/cosupervisor(s) and the programme duration is dependent upon the completion of the chosen research by the student. The research work is characterized either by discovery of new facts or proposition of a new theory/theories or by fresh interpretation of known facts. It should bear evidence of the candidate’s capacity for analysis and judgment as well as his/her ability to carry out independent investigation, design or development.
    All admitted students are provisionally registered in to the programme and are required to do a mandatory minimum course work of 12 credits. Upon successful completion of the course work, the student shall identify supervisor/cosupervisor(s) and in consultation prepare a detailed Research Proposal/Synopsys of the research s/he want to carry out. After the approval of the Synopsis and supervisor/cosupervisor(s), students are formally registered in to Ph.D. programme. This must normally be done within one year of admission.
    After formal registration, student proceeds with research and is required to submit his/her progress report at the end of every semester and make a presentation to School Research Committee (SRC). The minimum period after which a student can submit the dissertation is three years from the date of admission and the maximum period allowed is 6 years. Women candidates and persons with more than 40% disability may be given a relaxation of 2 year as per UGC norms.
    On completion of the research work, the student has to submit summary (synopsis) of the research work and make a presentation to SRC. Before submitting the dissertation, the student should publish at least one paper from the research work in refereed journals and two presentation in the conference. The dissertation must be a piece of original work free from any plagiarism. The final dissertation is evaluated by examiners and student has to defend it.

    Eligibility Criteria: –

    Minimum qualification required for Ph.D. Admission is as follows: The candidate should have postgraduate degree or its equivalent from a recognized university, in respective discipline, with minimum 55% marks or minimum CGPA of 5.5. on a 10 point scale.

    Admission process : –

    Shortlisted candidates will be called for written examination and interview. They will be required to pay a Registration-cum-Processing fee of Rs. 5000/- (Non Refundable).
    Admission to Ph.D. Programme will be based on the overall performance in Post Graduate degree, Entrance Examination, Personal Interview, and facilities available. Preference will be given to CSIR/UGC­ NET qualified candidates and those having sponsored projects.

    Written Entrance Examination: –

    It will broadly test the research aptitude and ability to comprehend. Candidates with NET, SLET, GATE, MPAT, M.Phil or equivalent qualification may be exempted from Entrance Examination.
    Admission to Ph.D. Programme will be based on the overall performance in Post Graduate degree, Entrance Examination, Personal Interview, and facilities available. Preference will be given to CSIR/UGC­ NET qualified candidates and those having sponsored projects.

    Personal Interview : –

    Candidates who clear the written entrance examination will be selected for Personal Interview. The interview will be conducted by the Interview Board of the University to comprehensively judge in depth of knowledge in the concerned subject/area and ability to do research. Admitted candidates will be required to pay the first installment of the Ph.D. programme fee and security deposit within the specified time to confirm the admission.
