On 2nd day (24.06.2020). Firstly Dr. Sharma welcomed and introduced the speaker Dr. K.K. Mrig Professor (Retd) Entomology CCSHAU Hisar before the audience and explained about
the topic to be talked today i.e. “Role of insects in agriculture”.
He cleared in his talk that all the insects are not harmful. The insects play a big role in agriculture.
The harmful insects damage our crops, fruit trees, vegetable crops, ornamentals, timber trees, stored grains and furniture too. But along with this the insects are beneficial/useful also.
To make the lecture more interesting he showed some coloured slides of insects. He told the students about the loss caused by the insects in various crops. After that he told the beneficial
aspects of the insects in agriculture as insect pollinators, honey production by honeybees, lac production by lac insects and silk production by silkworm. He also explained about the role
of parasites and predators in insect pest management.
At the end of his talk, he told the future of students in the fields of plant protection after completion of agriculture degree. He said that they may posted in govt jobs as plant
protection officer, locust control officer, Plant protection inspector, inspector in SILOS and warehouses, in national and international private insecticide–pesticide companies,
