FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM at SKNCOA, Pune attended by Ar. Vinod Patil, School of Architecture & Planning

The 5 days Faculty development Program (25th Feb – 1st Mar 2019) held at SKNCOA, Pune was structured by Council of Architecture on Learning Through Research in Landscape & Conservation.

It was attended by faculty member of School of Architecture & Planning, Ar. Vinod Patil. This training program aimed to capture the specific knowledge related to research process from selection of the topic to data collection, its analysis, conclusion to report writing by means of deliberations by eminent speakers on broad topics including and not limited to the following:

  • Focus on delegates research areas
  • Hands on experience on quantitative software
  • Special sessions on validation of research
  • Orientation towards research writing skills


  • DAY-1
    Session-1
    Inauguration-
    The program was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr. Sudhir Chavan, Principal, SKNCOA. He inaugrated the program with inspiring speech on research.

    The session was followed with the presentation by Dr. Nikhil Joshi, Singapore. He introduced the technical session with the topic ‘research innovation enterprise’, where he explained research is not about the buildings but people and community who is using them. He also emphasized on community participation in research work.

    Session-2
    The second session was conducted by Dr. Pooja SanchetiIB, on topic ‘Selection of Research area and formulating research questions’, where she explained how to select research topic, types of research and explained process of research through some exercises.

    Session-3
    The third session was handled by Dr. Pramod Jogalekar. He spoke about the structure of research design, research protocol and analysis of data collection. Session-4
    In the fourth session all the delegates had an interaction with Dr. Pramod Jogalekar and Dr. Banani Banerji regarding their own research areas and how they can take it forward.

    DAY-2
    Session-1
    The first session was handled by Dr. Shubhangi Kardile, who discussed the process of Data Collection, it's presentation & importance of analysis

    Session-2
    The second session was conducted successfully by Dr. Arti S. Petkar, where he spoke about the use of technology in varied research areas. She also showed her research work and explained how effectively software such as GIS can be used in research.

    Session-3
    The third session was handled successfully by Dr. Harimohan Pillai, where he spoke about his own research work explaining importance of Qualitative and quantitative research in Architecture.

    Session-4
    The fourth session was interactive session with experts Dr. Sudhir Chavan & Dr. Priyavada Chitale where the delegates asked their queries regarding framing the research question &it was answered by the dignitaries.

    DAY-3


    Session-1
    The third day started with the first session on the topic of "Use of Quantitative & qualitative techniques in research” by Dr. Pradeep Apte. He emphasized on analysis of the data and finding common thread between various pattern of the data.

    Session-2
    The second session was handled by Dr. Anurag Asawa, where he spoke about the Use of various software in research.

    Session-3
    The third session was again handled by Dr. Anurag Asawa where he talked about the statistical tools to analyze the data, parametric & non parametric test for analysis of the data.

    Session-4
    This was interactive sessions with experts Dr. Anurag Asawa and Dr. Smita Suryawanshi

    DAY-4
    Session-1
    On the 4th day, the first session was handled by Katherin Schmiele from Singapore who spoke about the Qualitative Research in Landscape. She explained the topic through her own landscape projects implemented in urban fabric of the Singapore.

    Session-2
    This session was on Importance of validation of data in research by Dr. Anjali Radkar. She talked Overall research methodology, types of the data, review of the records, Validity of the data.

    Session-3
    The third session was again handled by Dr. Anjali Radkar. She spoke about use of statistics in Research in this session. She also explained about sampling techniques, sample size and case study.

    Session-4
    The fourth session was Interactive session with the experts Dr. Anjali Radkar, Dr. Sudhir Chavan, Prof. Ajit Madkaikar.

    DAY-5
    Session-1
    The first part of this session was handled by Prof. Ajit Madkaikar who presented his prestigious landscape projects.

    The second part of second session was handled by Dr. Nikhil Joshi from Singapore, who discussed about the Quantitative Research in Conservation.

    Session-2
    The second session was handled by Dr. Trupti More, who spoke about the Importance of plagiarism in research. She also made audience aware about unintentional or accidental plagiarism and how to avoid the same.

    Session-3
    The third session was Interactive session with experts Dr. Trupti More & Dr. Vaishali Latkar

    Session-4
    The last session was Valedictory Session where chief guest was Prof. Jayshree Deshpande. Vote of thanks was provided to all the dignitaries of the program by the organizing team of SKNCOA. Session ended with group photograph of all the delegates with the dignitaries.

    The FDP thus helped in sensitizing the participants on various aspects of research in landscape & conservation architecture.
