Overview

The Ph.D. programme is intended to prepare scholars for highly rewarding careers in academia and research labs. The Ph.D. programme is designed by highly qualified, experienced, and noted faculty in their respective fields and is entirely based on research conducted by scholars under the supervision of a Supervisor/Co-Supervisor(s).

The Ph.D. programme in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) at K.R. Mangalam University School of Engineering and Technology (SOET) takes an applied approach to the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. This programme is designed to broaden one's knowledge of Power Systems, Power Electronics, Renewable Energy (Wind Energy Conversion System, Solar Energy), Energy Storage, and Smart Grids.

The Ph.D. programme caters to the following categories of students:

Full-Time Scholars:

Scholars are required to devote full time on campus for the Ph.D. programme. Scholars may apply for teaching/research/project assistantship and will be required to assist in teaching/laboratories and other developmental work.

Part-Time Scholars:

Scholars working in organizations situated in close vicinity of the university can enrol under this category.

Sponsored Scholars:

Employees of organizations/industries having collaborations with the university can enrol under this category.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The candidate should have postgraduate degree or its equivalent from a recognized University, in respective discipline, with minimum 55% marks or minimum CGPA of 5.5 on a 10 point scale.
  • They are required to supply a brief statement of research interests (maximum 1 page) Research experience like project work or internships at the undergraduate or master’s-level should be highlighted. Candidates who have qualified GATE examination will be preferred.

Admission process:

Candidates are required to download the Ph.D. admission form from the university website and submit it completely filled in all respects with copies of all the documents. Shortlisted candidates will be called for written examination and interview. They will be required to pay a Registration-cum-Processing fee of INR 5000 (Refundable).

Admission to Ph. D.programme will be based on the overall performance in Post Graduate degree, Entrance Examination, Personal Interview and positions available. Preference will be given to GATE-qualified candidates and those having sponsored projects.

Written Entrance Examination: It will broadly test the research aptitude and ability to comprehend. Candidates with GATE may be exempted from entrance examination.

Personal Interview: Candidates who clear the written entrance examination will be selected for personal interview. The interview will be conducted by the Interview Board of the University to judge in depth knowledge in the concerned subject/area and ability to do research.

Admitted candidates will be required to pay the first instalment of the Ph.D. programme fee and security deposit within the specified time to confirm the admission.

Programme Highlights
  • The Ph.D. in EEE programme is based on research conducted by the student under the supervision of the Supervisor/Co-supervisor(s), and the duration of the programme is determined by the student's completion of the chosen research. 
  • The research work is distinguished by the discovery of new facts, the formulation of new theories/theories, or a new interpretation of known facts. 
  • It should demonstrate the candidate's analytical and judgment abilities, as well as his or her ability to conduct independent research, design, or development.
  • All admitted students are provisionally registered in the programme and must complete a minimum of 14 credits of course work. 
  • Following successful completion of the course work, the student must identify a Supervisor/Co-supervisor(s) and prepare a detailed report in consultation with them.
  • Research Proposal/Synopsis of the research he/she wishes to conduct Students are formally registered in the Ph.D. programme after the Synopsis and Supervisor / Co-supervisor(s) have been approved. Normally, this must be completed within one year of admission. 
  • Following formal registration, the student begins to research and is required to submit a progress report at the end of each semester as well as make a presentation to the School Research Committee (SRC). 
  • The minimum time frame for submitting a dissertation is three years from the date of admission, and the maximum time frame is six years. 
  • According to UGC guidelines, women candidates and those with more than 40% disability may be granted a two-year extension.
  • After completing the research, the student must submit a summary (synopsis) of the research and give a presentation to the SRC. 
  • Before submitting the dissertation, the student should have published at least one paper from the research work in peer-reviewed journals and given at least two presentations at conferences. 
  • The dissertation must be original and free of plagiarism, and it will be evaluated by two examiners and the supervisor (s). 
  • The scholar must appear for the final viva voce for the award of the degree after receiving the Thesis assessment report and recommendations from all examiners.
