“Ignorantia legis neminem excusat” means ignorance of the law excuses no one. This Latin legal maxim broadly signifies the importance of law.
School of Legal Studies (SOLS), approved by the Bar Council of India, was established at K.R. Mangalam University in 2013 to impart quality legal education to law aspirants and prepare socially-relevant legal professionals equipped with the knowledge of statutory provisions. Students learn the basics of this profession through intensive lectures on interview and counseling techniques and moot court training. Undergraduate programs have been re-designed to empower aspiring lawyers to learn and master proficiency in legal studies. These specialized courses focus on meeting the present and future demands in the legal field. The flexibility to choose from a wide range of departmental electives and trans-disciplinary courses encourages learners to design their modules as per their area of interest.
The primary objective of SOLS is to nurture and guide the budding lawyers and present them to the society at large where they can be approached by those who need legal assistance. The potential lawyers of SOLS regularly participate in Moot Court Competitions at Intra-University and Inter-University Levels to chisel their advocacy skills. Summer Internship Programmes are mandatory for all SOLS students to enhance their professional skills.
Our budding lawyers organize Legal Awareness Programmes and Legal Aid Camps in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority, Gurugram, to bridge the gap between the help seekers and providers. The programme lets students identify legal issues that people often face while encouraging them to find relevant solutions. From performing ‘Nukkad Naataks’ on various legal concerns to providing professional guidance to the underprivileged section of the society, the SOLS students indeed work to make the legal profession a noble profession.
The evaluation pattern for all our programmes consists of multiple components such as students' participation in in-class activities, PowerPoint presentations on the research work, and written examinations. The pattern gives weightage to all the areas of learning. It embeds research habits in the young lawyers, builds self-confidence, and improves public speaking skills.
The concept of Mentoring at SOLS provides the liberty to interact and discuss any collegiate issue with their mentors. During their course work, the Mentor keeps a check on their academic performance and guides them to achieve their goals.
The exemplary pedagogy involving hands-on learning experience is required to fulfil our social responsibility towards the nation. Under the guidance of in-house faculty, our students organize international conferences, seminars, debate competitions, extempore, etc. They interact with Honourable judges of the Supreme Court, High Court, and District Courts in guest lectures to discuss industry-specific doubts. Such interactions also provide an opportunity for students to learn from the personal experiences of such dignitaries.
Your future is in your hands, and we guide you to shape it by enhancing your academic abilities.
