Students are required to take some classes in other disciplines to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of the topic at hand.

K.R. Mangalam University awards a Ph.D. degree in Mathematics after a student has completed extensive coursework in the field of mathematics, submitted a dissertation that makes an original contribution to knowledge, and successfully defended it before examiners who are experts in their field. A Ph.D. program will take at least four years to complete, possibly longer depending on how much leave time the student takes or whether or not he or she attends full-time status.

The Ph.D. programme caters to the following categories of students:

Full-Time Scholars

It should bear evidence of the candidate’s capacity for analysis and judgment as well as his/her ability to carry out independent investigation, design or development.

All admitted students are provisionally registered into the Programme and are required to do a mandatory minimum course work of 14 credits. Upon successful completion of the course work, the student shall identify Supervisor /Co-supervisor(s) and in consultation prepare a detailed Research Proposal/Synopsis of the research that he/she wants to carry out. After formal registration, the student proceeds with research and is required to submit his/her progress report at the end of every semester and make a presentation before School Research Committee (SRC). The minimum period after which a student can submit the thesis is three years from the date of admission and the maximum period allowed is 6 years.

Upon completion of the research work, the student has to submit a pre-dissertation presentation of the research work before School Research Committee (SRC). ) Before submitting the thesis, the student should have fulfilled all the necessary conditions laid for submission of a thesis as mentioned in Ph.D. regulations. The thesis must be a piece of original work free from any plagiarism, is subject to evaluation by examiners.
