Extension Activity on the Prevalence of Urinary Incontinence

The School of Physiotherapy And Rehabilitation Sciences organised a long-term extension activity that focused on the prevalence of urinary incontinence among women in rural Haryana, specifically in Palwal District. This initiative was conducted as a survey-based case study and health camp. Urinary incontinence remains a significant concern for middle-aged women, primarily due to weakened pelvic floor muscles among other factors. It can result in an inability to control the bladder, leading to urine leakage while sneezing or coughing, as well as a persistent urge to urinate. Through this survey, students had the opportunity to assess numerous females in the district, enhancing their understanding of this condition. The participants were taught pelvic floor strengthening exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles and help reduce the risk of pelvic organ prolapse. A total of 40 patients were assessed and treated.
