Professor
Prof. Garima Awasthi is a plant and environmental biologist specializing in plant stress physiology, heavy metal and metalloid toxicity, and sustainable remediation strategies. Her research focuses on understanding molecular, biochemical, and proteomic mechanisms governing plant responses to toxic elements, particularly arsenic, with emphasis on sulfur-mediated detoxification pathways, antioxidant defense systems, thiol metabolism, and metal transporter regulation. She completed her Ph.D. at CSIR–National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow, under AcSIR, where her work provided important insights into reducing arsenic accumulation and improving stress tolerance in rice. She was awarded the SERB–DST National Postdoctoral Fellowship and subsequently expanded her research to nano-bioremediation, biochar-based adsorption, phytoremediation, and industrial wastewater treatment. Her interdisciplinary approach integrates plant molecular biology with environmental toxicology and nanotechnology to develop eco-friendly solutions for soil and water pollution. Prof. Awasthi has published over eighty peer-reviewed articles in leading international journals, contributed book chapters, and edited scientific volumes on environmental pollution and toxic element mitigation. She currently serves as Professor at K. R. Mangalam University, Gurugram, where she teaches plant physiology, environmental biology, and nanobiotechnology, and mentors doctoral scholars. She is also an active reviewer and Guest Editor for international journals, contributing to high-quality scientific publishing.
