The B.Des. (Hons. / Hons. with Research) Fashion Design programme at K.R. Mangalam University is designed to nurture creativity, innovation, and technical expertise among aspiring fashion professionals. The programme provides a strong foundation in fashion illustration, garment construction, textile science, pattern making, draping, apparel production, fashion communication, and design thinking, supported by industry-oriented studio learning and hands-on practical experience. It integrates core areas such as fashion forecasting, surface ornamentation, CAD for fashion, sustainable design, merchandising, branding, visual styling, entrepreneurship, and research methodologies, enabling students to develop a comprehensive understanding of contemporary fashion design and the global apparel industry.
Students gain practical exposure through design studios, live industry projects, fashion shows, workshops, internships, portfolio development, exhibitions, craft documentation, and collaborative assignments with industry experts. These experiences help them build essential skills in creative problem-solving, design conceptualisation, trend analysis, material exploration, technical execution, and professional presentation. The curriculum also emphasises sustainable fashion practices, digital design technologies, innovation, consumer behaviour, global fashion trends, and emerging industry tools, empowering students to develop distinctive design identities while responding to the evolving needs of the fashion ecosystem.
Upon completing the programme, graduates are equipped to conceptualise, design, and develop innovative fashion collections that combine creativity, functionality, and market relevance. They are prepared to work independently or collaborate with fashion houses, apparel brands, design studios, retail organisations, export houses, media and lifestyle companies, and entrepreneurial ventures while upholding professional ethics and sustainable design practices. The programme prepares graduates for rewarding careers as fashion designers, fashion stylists, fashion illustrators, apparel merchandisers, textile designers, costume designers, fashion entrepreneurs, visual merchandisers, and fashion consultants, enabling them to make meaningful contributions to the dynamic global fashion industry.
